Experience overview

The Moroccan hammam is far more than a spa treatment — it is a weekly ritual of purification, community, and deep cleansing that has shaped life here for over a thousand years. For visitors, a private hammam in a riad or boutique spa is the perfect introduction: warm steam rooms, savon noir (black soap) made from olive oil, and a vigorous exfoliation with the textured kessa glove that leaves skin remarkably soft. Many sessions finish with ghassoul clay and argan oil, followed by mint tea in a calm salon. Whether you add a massage or pair it with a cooking class, the hammam is the reset your body welcomes after medina walks and desert drives.

How your experience unfolds

Arrival & welcome — You are greeted at a riad or spa in the medina (or picked up if arranged). Change into disposable undergarments; towels and slippers are provided in private packages.

Warm-up steam — Move through tiled steam rooms of increasing heat to open pores — similar in spirit to historic neighborhood hammams, but in a calm, guided setting.

Black soap ritual — An attendant applies savon noir across your skin. You rest in the steam while the soap softens dead skin — the classic preparation for exfoliation.

Kessa scrub — Using a rough kessa glove, the therapist (or you, in some packages) scrubs in long firm strokes. The result is an intense, satisfying cleanse Moroccans enjoy weekly.

Clay & hydration — Rinse, then optional ghassoul clay mask and argan oil. Many guests add a 30–60 minute massage with scented oils.

Aftercare — Relax in a salon with Moroccan mint tea. You leave feeling lighter, deeply clean, and ready for dinner in the medina.

First time? — We book private hammams for couples and solo travellers who want clear guidance — no guesswork about local etiquette or what to bring.
