Chefchaouen Blue City Walking Tour

Experience overview

Chefchaouen is Morocco's blue pearl — a Rif Mountain town where walls, doors, and stairways are painted in shades of azure and indigo. Founded in 1471 as a small fortress, it became a refuge for Andalusian and Jewish communities; today it is one of the country's most photogenic destinations. Our local guide leads you through the pedestrian medina, the kasbah, artisan workshops, and up to viewpoints over the valley, sharing stories of daily life, crafts, and the traditions that make Chefchaouen unlike anywhere else in Morocco.

How your experience unfolds

Medina & kasbah — Start at Place Outa el Hammam, the lively main square. Visit the kasbah (Ethnographic Museum) to understand Chefchaouen's history, then wander the blue lanes — each corner a photo opportunity, with guidance on respectful photography and local customs.

Artisans & Ras El Ma — Stop at weaving cooperatives and small workshops. Walk to Ras El Ma where mountain water flows through public laundry areas — a glimpse of daily mountain life.

Viewpoint — Climb (moderate) to the Spanish Mosque hill or another favourite lookout for sweeping views over the blue town and green Rif valleys. Free time for lunch or shopping before your onward travel.

Combined tours — Chefchaouen pairs beautifully with Fes, Tangier, or our 12-day imperial cities circuit — ask us to build transport and accommodation around your walking tour.
